“Discovery of anti-hepatitis B virus activity ” Recently, we have reported that crude extracts of some Thai edible plants contain anti-HBV property. Identification of anti-HBV compounds and their actions inside cells are ongoing. Moreover, we have found an effective siRNA target site that could inhibit the HBV gene expression. Characterisation of this siRNA and investigation of more siRNAs against the HBV gene expression are underway. Ongoing research projects are:
Natural product study
  • Inhibitory effects of crude extracts from some edible Thai plants against replication of hepatitis B virus and human liver cancer cells.
  • Potential inhibitory effect of Thai medicinal plants on molecular mechanism of hepatitis B virus.
RNAi technology
  • Identification of effective siRNA target sites on HBV RNA.
